While others are decking the halls with boughs of holly or placing Hanukkah menorahs in their windows, Baha’is are enjoying the goodwill feeling of the season and appreciating its spiritual nature. Some Baha’is celebrate Christmas and Hanukkah at the homes of family members or friends who are not Baha’is, while looking forward to Ayyam-i-Ha (Feb. 26 through March 1), which is the time of gift-giving for Baha’is.

At Christmastime and other Christian holidays, Bahá'ís are often asked what their religion has to say about Jesus Christ.

Prayers and Words of Wisdom
O God! Refresh and gladden my spirit. Purify my heart. Illumine my powers. I lay all my affairs in Thy hand. Thou art my Guide and my Refuge. I will no longer be sorrowful and grieved; I will be a happy and joyful being...

image2 Q: What Baha'is do to grow spiritually?
A:
Baha’u’llah states in His Writings that to grow spiritually, Baha’is should:
  • *Daily recite one of the Obligatory Prayers with pure-hearted devotion.
  • *Regularly read the Sacred Scriptures with reverence, attention and thought at least each morning and evening.
  • *Prayerfully meditate on the Teachings of the Faith to understand them more deeply, fulfill them more faithfully and convey them more accurately to others. (There are no set forms of meditation prescribed in the Baha’i teachings and the way in which one chooses to meditate is left entirely to the individual.)
  • *Strive each day to bring our behavior more into accordance with the high standards that are set forth in the Teachings.
  • *Teach the Cause of God. *Selflessly do service in the work of the Cause and in our trade or profession. .
