Mixing it up in Michigan
The Baha'is of Huron Valley, one hour north of Detroit, are a good example of how members of the Faith can make an impact in their community despite their small number. Coming together from several towns in the vicinity, the group of around 10 individuals has become involved in several projects to enrich and improve their neighborhood: helping coordinate the local Dr. Martin Luther Jr. Day celebration, conducting a social action speaker series at a library and adopting a stretch of road.

Before you write a book, you usually do market research. But I didn’t care what was already out there, because I was going to do it anyway," says Morris Taylor, in reference to his new book, How to Create a Magical College Life. "I felt I had something unique and important to say."

With approximately 900 Baha’is in the metropolitan area, the New York City Baha'i Center is a happening place. Q: How does one become a Baha'i?
A: A person becomes a Baha'i by recognizing Baha’u’llah as the Messenger of God for this age, and by following His laws and teachings and the guidance of the administrative institutions He established for the unification of humankind. Baha'is enjoy the right to vote in Baha'i elections, serve as members of Baha'i administrative institutions and contribute to Baha'i funds.
A person officially becomes a Baha'i by signing a card declaring his or her belief in Baha'u'llah. To find Baha’is in your area, please call 1-800-22-UNITE. A member of the Baha'i Faith will contact you to confirm your wish to become a Baha'i and will invite you to participate in Baha'i activities.
Generally, the enrollment of a new believer involves three steps:

  • Declaration of faith
  • The processing of your declaration by a Local Spiritual Assembly (the Baha’i administrative institution)
  • The recording of your enrollment by the Membership Office of the National Spiritual Assembly
